Welcome to Barn Close

Barn Close is a lovely 1920's house set in 2 acres of gardens on the edge of Beetham Village. Lying to the south of Kendal and convenient for the M6 Motorway (J35 6 miles), it is an ideal location for anyone wishing to visit the breathtaking scenery of the Lake District by day but seek rural tranquillity in the evening. Set in a designated 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty', Beetham is surrounded by farmland and wooded hills. Kendal is 15 minutes and Windermere 20 minutes by car. For visitors from overseas, Manchester Airport is just over an hours drive. As well as plants, birds are abundant in the garden - 85 species having been recorded. The Robinsons are both keen naturalists and have travelled extensively in Africa, the Americas and Asia. Mike is an experienced birder in the UK and in addition to welcoming Bed and Breakfast guests into their home, short birdwatching breaks are also offered through North West Birds.

Barn Close has featured for many years in the popular guide, Alastair Sawday's Special Places to Stay for Garden Lovers. The garden itself has been featured in home and garden publications in Japan and Germany, in the National Press and recently in Cumbria Life. It has also opened for charity on several occasions.

Anne is a keen gardener, willingly sharing her enthusiasm and is more than happy to help with itineraries and visits, not only to gardens, but also castles, historic houses, art galleries and museums in the area. The famous topiary garden, Levens Hall is 4 miles from Beetham and is a must for any visitor!
